Unpopular opinion time in the Hope Summers tag!
Emma deserved what she got in Generation Hope #15 and her bitchslap of Hope Summers was her lashing out at Hope in the most petty way imaginable after being called on her shit.
Don’t get me wrong, I’ll be the first to admit when Hope’s being a whiny bitch and deserves it. When Laurie bitchslapped her in Schism? Totally justified!
Emma, however, deserved the verbal smackdown she got. Hope wasn’t the most respectful about it but Emma tried to smother her with a pillow so I doubt she’ll ever be nice to her anyway. Still, Emma deserved that shit too. Emma took a man and lied to everyone about taking him, including her boyfriend. Then wiped his mind entirely and left him in the middle of a war-zone, essentially killing him. She probably hoped he would die there, and if not at least he was mentally dead. This she did as a member of a team that frowns on killing their enemies. Remember when she got pissed off at Scott for the X-Force? At least he was doing it to protect mutantkind. Shaw was already locked up and secure and done. What she did was out of petty anger and revenge for her personal, sexual, past with the man. And Hope called her out on it.
Who cares if Hope’s idealistic about Shaw? When haven’t the X-Men been idealistic about their enemies in the past? Look at Magneto and Legion and Emma. If they think everyone else can change, of course Hope thinks the mindwiped man can change too. Scott may have a point he’s arguing, but Emma’s just pissed off to see her sexual history dredged up again and smacked a teenager for it.
